Above is the URL to a story which used "Cult of the Lost Cause" in the headline. When they start calling something a "cult" it is a sign that whatever it is is seen as being something bad.
The article has some really good explanations as to why the monuments need to go.
I think this article shows how there is a shift in the establishment favoring the removal of these monuments.
